Standard Water Heaters
Standard water heaters have been the most common water heater used in homes throughout the Seattle Metropolitan Area for decades. This proven technology has only become more efficient with time, and could be perfect for your home.
Standard Electric Water Heaters
The typical electric water heater is wired to a 220 volt circuit. To heat the water, the current passes through electrical resistance heating elements, usually two, one at the middle of the tank and one at the bottom. Power is delivered to each element through a thermostat—a switch that senses the water temperature. When the temperature drops, the switch closes to allow current flow, and it opens when the temperature reaches its preset limit. Thermostats have a dial for setting the maximum water temperature—generally between 130 degrees and 140 degrees, or as low as about 120 degrees for increased energy savings and scald protection.
Standard Gas Water Heaters
The most common gas water heater is technically called an “atmospheric vent” type. Because warm air rises, the hot gases created by combustion are pulled by natural convection up a vertical metal flue through the roof to the outside. The air around the base of the water heater is pulled into the burner chamber for combustion by the same convection flow. It’s a tried-and-true, simple system, that does not require electric power or moving parts.
Apples to Apples Price Match Program
The Hot Water Heater Company maintains our Apples to Apples Program in order to provide a snapshot comparison of like-for-like standard natural gas and electric water heater estimates and contract terms. This estimate is to ensure that when customers obtain multiple quotes, they are comparing the same installations form different companies.
We understand that a new water heater replacement or repair can be stressful and overwhelming to a homeowner. In an effort to ease purchasing fears, and instill trust in whomever you choose, we encourage you to get your other quotes and compare them to ours and keep in mind that we have a price matching guarantee on “Apples to Apples” installations. The intent is to provide our customers with enough education to make the right investment for them.
